The Hospital

Located in Pollachi, 40 Kms away from Coimbatore, the Manchester of South India, the hospital is well connected by rail and road and is on the way to important southern cities. It is also 40 Kms from Kerala border town of Palghat which is one of the Gateways to Kerala. The hospital is located in a very serene and non-polluted atmosphere and is surrounded by lush green coconut, areca and Malaysian bread fruit trees. The footpath running through this gives a refreshing break from the maddening city life.

Dr. M.C.Veluswamy

Born on April 1st 1924 to an agricultural family, Dr M C Veluswamy did his schooling in Ramakrishna Vidyalayam and his BSc in Pachaiappa’s college in Madras. He completed his MBBS from MMC in 1954. An avid sportsman, he was a footballer and a hockey player and went on to represent MMC in a hockey tournament in Ceylon.

He started working as Asst Surgeon in Thoracic unit at GH, Madras first under Dr Chagan Lal and later under Dr Sadasivam. A brave surgeon he would prefer taking emergency duties to take up challenging cases. He got married to Dr Ruckmani in 1955 and it was in 1960 that he moved back to Pollachi as his father took ill. He along with Dr Nambiar were the only two surgeons in GH where he used to perform a myriad of GI, Orthopaedic and gynecological surgeries along with n number of tonsillectomies which spurred him to develop a simpler version of Draffin’s bipod stand still used at MCV.

He resigned from GH in 1963 and started private practice. In those days when no anaesthetist was available he had done caesarean sections and thyroidectomies under local anaesthesia. In 1967 he started the current MCV as MRC nursing home. Loved by his patients and family he led a short and eventful life and passed away at 44 years of age in August 1968 after a massive cardiac arrest. The job left incomplete spurred his then 7 year old son to continue the good work resulting in the present MCV ENT Trust Hospital. The main objective of this trust is to deliver the latest ENT treatment at an affordable cost in an non-polluted and serene atmosphere.
